KAMBRIA - Dive into the future with Kambria Underwater Conservation Robot DAO - Embarking on Marine Life Monitoring and Conservation. Join our tech-driven initiative to safeguard marine life, combining innovation and societal contribution. Discover how our DAO is revolutionizing conservation efforts today.
Dear Kambrians,
With the formation of Underwater Conservation Robot DAO - Embarking on Marine Life Monitoring and Conservation, we would like to call on the technology community to address the future issue of maritime environmental conservation and marine life research.
In this article, we would like to introduce an overview about this DAO. If this resonates with you, join us to be a part of this social impact.
Co-owning technology via Kambria DAOs A DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization) is a community using blockchain to facilitate decentralized autonomy. The control is spread out among all community members who use governance tokens to vote on DAO’s rules or changes, voting power is equivalent to the number of tokens they possess. By this we can empower the community with trust, transparency and automation, and enable open-source solutions to be commercialized by their community. Each Kambria DAO is started by a Dev Team submitting their proposal with a solution of technology they can develop and open for the community to co-own. Communities collectively buy into the solution by participating in the DAO. Then the Dev Team starts to develop the solution and the development progress will be managed monthly. The DAO as owners of the solution will decide and contribute to the commercialization of the solution, as well as get paid from their contribution. Please check this page for a more detailed model and FAQs of Kambria DAOs. |
Why Underwater Conservation Robot?
Underwater conservation robots, also known as underwater drones or remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), play a critical role in marine conservation efforts. Here are some points and statistics that demonstrate the importance of these robots in underwater conservation and motivate us to start this initiative:
1. Deep-Sea Research:
The deep sea is like a treasure trove of new species and potential medicines. New species are uncovered, providing new insights into the rich tapestry of life itself. Beyond that, the ocean's depths contain the promise of possible medications that could change medicine, as evidenced by the Census of Marine Life project's discovery of thousands of new species.
2. Underwater Mapping:
We can build accurate maps of marine environments using cutting-edge technology, which are useful tools for analyzing habitats and developing strategies to protect maritime environments. We can plan better strategies to keep marine life safe and conserve these special places.
3. Oil Spill and Pollution Response:
Whether in assessing oil spill damage, monitoring pollution recovery, or aiding oil spill response efforts, our actions make a difference in preserving these vital ecosystems.
4. Protected Area Surveillance:
Illegal activities threaten marine protected areas that harbor fragile ecosystems. Our vigilance helps deter such activities, contributing to the safeguarding of marine life. With over 90% of the world's fish stocks either exploited or overexploited, our efforts in marine protection become ever more crucial.
5. Coral Reef Conservation:
A Biodiversity and Medicine Haven Coral reefs, which habitats for approximately 25% of all marine species. Additionally, they contribute to the development of crucial drugs, potentially including remedies for ailments such as cancer, viruses, arthritis, and bacterial infections. Unfortunately, coral bleaching caused by climate-induced ocean temperature rises, along with harmful human activities, has resulted in the destruction of 50% of these reefs, and projections indicate a potential loss of up to 90% by midcentury. Restoring the health of these ecosystems can demand substantial periods, spanning from several years to decades.

Underwater Conservation Robot - Suggested use cases and features
So among various use cases of underwater robots, we suggest the followings for the DAO solution:
- The solution should be community and society-oriented, as DAO community is the best one to solve community problems. The solution features should be designed for community work, like gamification and social connections.
- Ultimately, the solution can empower the DAO community to drive tangible impact in marine conservation, to combat pollution, restore coral reefs and preserve underwater ecosystems for the future.
With such use cases, we suggest the solutions to have these features:
- Monitor water pollution, temparature changes and underwater ecosystem well-being
- Automated coral reef restoration: The robot could carry and place coral fragments onto degraded areas, helping to accelerate the natural recovery of damaged reefs.

The Underwater Conservation Robot DAO (UCRD)
Our approach to build the DAO is to partner with the Dev Teams experienced in R&D this solution, as well as the Service Partners experienced in doing the ocean cleanup services.
Phase 1: Develop an underwater conservation robot solution
Phase 2: Implement the solution by introducing it to Underwater Conservation Service Partners (UCSP) to buy or rent as an alternative method. The DAO will also run donation campaigns in which supporters will buy the robots to donate to UCSP.
Phase 3: Create community movement with UCRD Gamification, such as:
- Reward DAO members with LP tokens for running donation campaigns
- Reward supporters with an NFT representing their robot, and credits for the contribution of their robot .
- Reward EcoMarine Heroes (robots’ operators) with DAO LP tokens for their works, and sharing their stories to the community.
Phase 4: Speed up the work via the community. EcoMarine Heroes at each country can team up to implement coral conservation service at local, and the DAO will award Annual Global Prizes for best teams.
Partnership invitations
To Dev Teams
If you are experienced in R&D an underwater exploration & conservation robot or similar solutions, and interested in collaborating with UCRD as Dev Partner to develop the solution, please submit your proposal to demonstrate how you should be selected to develop this solution.
The proposal should show:
- Team profiles and relevant experiences
- Introduction of your solution such as ideation, market research, prototypes and demos…
- Development plan until the solution is ready for commercialization in the 1st product cycle. Note that the development progress will be managed monthly as per Kambria DAOs model
- Quotation
From our fundraising experiences, we updated our qualification criteria to align with expectations of potential investors, including:
- The teams already have prototype/MVP to prove feasibility of your solution concept
- Your development plan is within 9 months to a complete solution, then the DAO community will join hands to bring it to market
- Your quotation (1st product cycle) is up to $300.000, including prototype/MVP development work.
Please note that this partnership has the potential for long-term collaboration spanning multiple product cycles, contingent upon the success of each cycle.
To Service Partners
If you are experienced in doing underwater conservation services, and interested in collaborating with UCRD as Underwater Conservation Service Partners, we would love to have your participation in the solution development phase, to survey your needs for the solution as well as collaborate to test the solution in the pilot phase.
Then in the commercialization phase, we can collaborate to implement the marine exploration and conservation service using these robots.
