It is no secret that modern day organizations have been embracing Blockchain technology to unlock the full potential of their businesses. Blockchain allows businesses to offer incentives to collaborate with others in projects in a safe and fair way. Not only does blockchain create a cooperative environment that is beneficial for all parties, it also ensures security and transparency. Since blockchain creates an environment that flourishes open innovation through collaboration, Kambria is proud to have its platform built upon it.

Kambria

Kambria is an open innovation platform that enables and incentivizes collaborations in R&D, manufacturing, and commercializing of advanced technology. Kambria contains protocols uniquely designed with blockchain and crypto-economics to address the current waste and efficiencies in today’s innovation model. The founding team has expertise in AI, robotics, and blockchain from leading institutions including Stanford and Carnegie Mellon, and have successful exits including one to Google.

Open Innovation & Blockchain

One of the most important aspects of innovation is to encourage people to build off each other’s work. If you look at the traditional patent system, it’s all about secrecy and working in a siloed environment, where to innovate means you must develop everything yourself. This requires an incredible amount of time and resources.

With Kambria we are different, where we are changing the dynamics of innovation through collaboration and open source. In the Kambria ecosystem, the value of contribution is assessed in a unified way.

For example, say you want to build an arm for a robot. You will need many different components like motors, physical design, manufacturing and aesthetics. In academia, everyone writes papers where you are incentivized to publish early and disseminate as widely as possible. The goal being you want the most people to build on your research. We are creating a similar incentivized ecosystem with Kambria. Even if you are creating just part of an arm, like the rotary system. Now the rotary system may not look great or may be stuck in a lab environment due to lack of manufacturing resources. But if you open that up, other people can build on it where you will get rewarded when the value capture, i.e. licensing/sale event happens. Now you have no fear of sharing your innovation, but are incentivized to do so instead.

We need a protocol to understand the relative value of the contributions made towards building the arm that one day sells in the marketplace and generates value like via a sale or licensing fees.

Blockchain is not only necessary to Kambria’s development, but also vital. The innovative tools that Kambria plans to offer are made possible using blockchain technology. With incentivized collaboration, a connected community, and low startups costs; Kambria powered by blockchain will accelerate development and create a more efficient ecosystem for robotics.

Licensing Fees and “Micro-Licensing”

Kambria will be usable for both personal and R&D developments, with licensing options for commercial and enterprise purposes. Micro-Licensing was created to ensure that all levels of developers from startups to individual developers, will be able to license out their technologies without legal barriers or the risk of fraud. This technology makes licensing out knowledge simple and predictable. Smart contracts will provide fairly attributed licensing fees, with high levels of security and transparency. Once again, blockchain makes all this possible

(KAT) Tokens

Kambria’s token, KAT, will be the tool that facilitates all interactions within the platform. Individual developers and development teams will be rewarded with KAT tokens for designs and other technologies they contribute to the platform. Companies will also be given the power to issue exciting bounty challenges that will be awarded to completed projects. The idea of KAT tokens is to connect the community through incentivization, which promotes innovation in the AI and robotics development market.

Members of the Kambria community will also be able to use KAT tokens to either promote certain projects, and even fundraise them to stimulate progress in development. Kambria envisions KAT tokens being used in multiple verticals deployed on the platform in the future.
